SARI ERAMUS-HICKEYPlay Production & Stagecraft Sari Erasmus-Hickey has been involved in Education and Performing Arts education on many levels. It started after auditioning and being accepted in a Teachers’ training course with specialisation in Speech and Drama. Once she started teaching, she completed a Licentiate in Speech and Drama through the University of South Africa and pursued her interest in acting with involvement in Theatre productions. Most memorable was a professional production of Electra by Sophocles with a director from the Athens Theatre in Greece.
After settling in Australia she continued a career in Teaching, with great involvement in school productions and Performing Arts Festivals. She chaired a regional committee, organising Drama festivals for some ten years. She adjudicated Debating and Public Speaking events for several years.
Involvement in theatre productions continued through out and she has performed in more than twenty plays such as Macbeth, Steptoe and Son and Dirty Dusting. The Q Theatre workshops presented opportunities for further skills development and SariE was a member of the advance group for three years. She has directed twenty one major productions, the last being Happiness by David Williamson in 2018.
Sari will be covering the following material:
● Creating and capitalising on opportunities for performance ● Venues: Play production in school studio (Finding a venue) ● Play production Process: Play/script selection, auditions, rehearsals, marketing. ● Stagecraft: practicalities of set design, blocking, movement, technical, lighting and sound.
At times, members will be actively involved, in group problem solving activities
TOUCHSTONES – Relaxation
We are continuing our regular sessions for the sharing of corporate knowledge from basics to the best. We all have experience in teaching various aspects of the foundations of our craft and these sessions will be facilitated by members of your committee to bring out the combined knowledge of the group for the benefit of brand new teachers and re-energising those with years of experience.
So bring your ideas, experience and enthusiasm to share with the other members of the Association. The topic in August is “Relaxation” led by Noel Cislowski, prior to a peer led discussion.
